Brackettville Agents Apprehend Convicted Sexual Offender

U.S. Border Patrol agents assigned to the Brackettville Station arrested a Mexican national, convicted of sexual battery, said a press release Tuesday.

“Homeland security is our primary mission, but apprehensions like this help keep our communities safe,” said Del Rio Sector Chief Patrol Agent Rodolfo Karisch.

According to the release, on Jan. 29, Alejandro Velasquez-Aboytes, a 29-year-old Mexican national, was apprehended by Brackettville Border Patrol agents patrolling north of Brackettville. During processing, agents discovered that in 2008, Velasquez-Aboytes had been convicted of sexual battery in Lexington, Oklahoma. Velasquez-Aboytes was sentenced to five years incarceration and served three years with a two-year suspended sentence. Velasquez-Aboytes was then ordered removed from the U.S. in March of 2009.  Velasquez-Aboytes also has a prior conviction for driving under the influence in 2006 and was sentenced to a one-year suspended sentence.

Velasquez-Aboytes faces a charge of illegal re-entry after deportation – 8 USC § 1326 – which carries a penalty of up to 20 years in prison, and his prior order of removal will be reinstated.
