The Jail Train: Resisting Arrest, Hand Weapons and More

Over the past two days, people kept local authorities on their toes with a variety of criminal complaints. About 47 people were booked into the Tom Green County Jail, and out of those arrests, 25 had new complaints.

In one specific complaint, Matthew Joseph Niavez, 31, was arrested for Theft/Resisting Arrest Search or Transport on Jan. 27. Officer Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department, said an officer was working off-duty uniformed security at Lowe’s Grocery located at 1926 N Bryant Blvd. when he observed Niavez conceal an item on his person. The officer watched Niavez walk past the register and exit the store. The officer then followed and confronted him, advising Niavez he was being detained for theft. Upon being notified, Niavez became uncooperative and began resisting; he continued to resist even after the officer continued verbal commands. He was arrested and charged with the listed offenses and issued a Criminal Trespass Warning from the store.

In another complaint, Ricardo Santos, 17, was arrested for a Prohibited Weapon – Knuckles early this morning, at 12:25 a.m., when SAPD officers conducted a traffic stop on a red truck near the 700 block of Spaulding. During a records check, it was confirmed that Santos did not have a driver’s license. Officers also observed brass knuckles in the car, so the 17-year-old was arrested for the prohibited weapon and issued a citation for driving without a license. He was given a verbal warning for the traffic violation.

  • Possession of Controlled Substance and Dangerous Drug – 3
  • Possession of Marijuana and Paraphernalia – 5

  • Assault with Bodily Injury – 2
