Two Arrested and Charged for Abilene Infant Homicide

This week, Abilene Police has made another arrest in connection with the infant homicide in Abilene on Jan. 18. Amber Craker, 18, the birth mother of the deceased female infant,  was arrested at 4:15 p.m. shortly after her release from Hendrick Medical Center on Jan. 19 where she went for bleeding. The doctor who examined her alerted the authorities that Cracker had just had a baby. She has been formally charged with Murder, a first degree felony, and Tampering with Evidence, a second degree felony. Her bond has been set at $300,000.

Damian Scott Cate, 22, was also arrested late Monday and charged with murder in connection with the homicide as well. Court documents say additional family members may face charges.

Cate admitted to police that he “held the baby while his fiancé (Craker) caused obvious injuries,” according to his Abilene Police Department arrest report.

The report also stated, “(Cate) also admitted to cleaning up the scenes, including removing the bloody bed sheets and placing them in the washer.”

Police went to her residence and found the baby dead inside, along with placenta stuck in a sewage drain. The body was sent to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner's Office for an autopsy.

Abilene Police Investigators are still awaiting preliminary autopsy results from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
