Abilene Infant Homicide Case Widens, Arrest Made

 

The Abilene Police Department arrested 22-year-old Damian Scott Cate and charged him with First Degree Felony Murder and Second Degree Felony Tampering/Fabricating with Physical Evidence with Intent to Impair a Human Corpse for his connection to the homicide investigation involving the infant body discovered at a home on the 400 Block of S. 25th Street in Abilene.

Police report that Cate is the boyfriend of the 18-year-old female who medical professionals at Hendricks Hospital treated for bleeding early Monday morning. She has been identified in local Abilene media as Amber Craker. The hospital told police that the bleeding was from a very recent childbirth. A body of an infant was discovered during a police investigation to led police to her residence on 25th St. in Abilene.

APD said that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are probable.

Abilene TV station KTXS obtained a copy of the arrest warrant. They report that the warrant named Amber Craker, Damian Cate and three others in the home at the time had “committed the criminal offense of murder – a first-degree felony.”

KTXS also reported that police obtained a confession from Craker, the mother. In the warrant, she stated to police that she gave birth to a baby in her bedroom and then “she tried to flush the baby down the toilet”, KTXS reported.

Craker is under police guard as she continues to receive treatment at the hospital, KTXS reported.
