At approximately 9:25 p.m., San Angelo Police units were dispatched to the 1000 block of Tarver St. in regards to a subject with a gun. When police arrived at the scene, they located the subject a few blocks away, but the man decided to flee, said Sgt. Travis Griffith with SAPD.
“During that time, the subject evaded arrest from the units,” Griffith stated. “The units lost sight of him, a perimeter was set up and PD canine was deployed.”
Griffith said through the search and utilization of the canine, multiple officers on scene were able to locate the suspect, a 30-year-old Hispanic male, in the 200 block of South Browning St.
“We have multiple pending felony charges [on the suspect], and Criminal Investigation is on their way,” Griffith added.
Initially, Sgt. Griffith said officials were going to utilize U.S. Customs air support; however, by the time the helicopter arrived on the scene, officers had detained the individual. Overall, police set up a five-block perimeter during their search of the suspect.
Griffith said at this time, there’s an ongoing investigation into the man’s motives. More information is forthcoming once received by SAPD.
