At approximately noon Thursday, San Angelo police responded to the Econolodge at 415 W. Beauregard for a shots fired call. Police located two assault victims, Justin McCarty and Cheyenne Ponce, along with a female witness, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for SAPD.
Solsbery stated the assault took place in room 116 at the Econolodge. Investigating officers found evidence of gunshots being fired in the room, so members of the Criminal Investigation Division were called out to the motel to investigate further.
Ponce told investigators a white male suspect choked her while a Hispanic male suspect pointed a handgun at her. During the altercation, the Hispanic male fired the handgun in the room and chased McCarty out of the room. Luckily, no one was injured from the shots being fired, but McCarty did show signs of being physically assaulted. He was treated for minor injuries at Shannon Medical Center, Solsbery noted.
The two suspects were seen leaving the area in a white 2002 Mazda passenger car, and throughout the afternoon, officers attempted to locate them; however, they have yet to do so.
Detective Noel Anderson is the lead investigator for this case. If anyone has any information about this incident, SAPD is asking them to contact Anderson at (325)657-4344. Solsbery stated no other information is available for release at this time.
