Grand Jury Indicts 47, Drugs and Theft Make Majority

 

The Grand Jury met for one day this month, and out of the 47 indictments released on Dec. 7th from the 51st, 119th, 340th, and 391st District Courts, 14 were drug related either by possession or by intent to distribute. Twelve of the indictments included theft or burglary; 8 were assault offenses; and our of all 47 of these, 6 included the use or possession of weapons.

Here are the cases of interest:

Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon and Burglary Habitation Intend Other Felony

Bradley Shane Duncan, 45, of Cleburne, was charged with one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and count two burglary of habitation, both of which are second degree felonies.

According to the complaint, on Sept. 28 at 12:44 a.m., the San Angelo Police were sent to the Sedona Ranch Apartments at 2901 Sunset Dr. for a suicidal subject call. Apparently, Duncan had kicked in the door of Kimberly Duncan’s apartment armed with a gun and threatened to shoot her and himself. Kimberly was able to remove herself, but not before being struck with the barrel of the firearm Bradley possessed. Kids from the apartment called the police. When officers arrived and made contact with Bradley, the threats of suicide began. He was either leaving the apartment by a gun shot from himself or by the police. In the end, he emerged from the apartment with a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the abdominal area.

Bradley Duncan’s Pre-trial Scheduled Hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the 391st District Court.

Another Agg Assault with Deadly Weapon and Unlawful Carrying of Weapon with Alcohol on Premises

Johnny Mondito Hernandez, 41, from San Angelo was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, which is a second degree felony. Count three included an unlicensed carry weapon and alcohol on the premises, which is a third degree felony.

On Aug. 9, Hernandez entered the La Copa Cabana bar at 1329 Hughes St. just before 1 a.m. with a gun and threatened a 50-year-old Hispanic male and a 38-year-old Hispanic female. The couple were on the dance floor when Hernandez found and pointed the gun at them and threatened to kill both of them. Police caught Hernandez in the parking lot before he could leave the scene and was immediately transported to Tom Green County Jail.

Hernandez’s Pre-trial Scheduled Hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the 51st District Court.

Assault on a Public Servant with Injury

Vincent Royce Salcedo was charged with an assault on a public servant with injury, a third degree felony.

On Aug. 1, Officer Thomas and Officer Hernandez (who were both in uniform and on duty) were investigating a vehicle accident at 217 W. Ave U. During the investigation, Salcedo, who appeared to be intoxicated, began to interfere with the investigation. He entered the road between Officer Hernandez and the vehicle as Officer Hernandez was attempting to photograph the scene. Officer Hernandez placed Salcedo under arrest, and as he was being transported to the patrol vehicle, Salcedo began to resist. He struck back with his right foot and connected with Officer Hernandez’s knee causing it to hyperextend.

Salcedo’s Pre-trial Scheduled Hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the 51st District Court.

Stalking

Joseph Velez, who was charged with Stalking, a third degree felony, engaged in conduct that caused a reasonable person to fear bodily injury or offense to property. He made persistent threats to a victim, including threats of having someone “beat her ass” and causing destruction by puncturing her tires. Velez committed actions with the intent to harass, annoy, alarm, abuse, torment or embarrass the victim.

Velez’s Pre-trial Scheduled Hearing is set for Jan. 5, 2016 at 2 p.m. in the 119th District Court.

Evading Arrest Detention with a Vehicle or Watercraft

Luis Eugeniou Galaraza, Jr. was charged with evading arrest detention with a vehicle, a third degree felony. On Oct. 29, Officer Espinoza initiated a traffic stop for failure to stop at a stop sign at N. Magdalen and E. 6th.  The complaint stated that Galaraza intentionally and actively evaded the officer in his vehicle and failed to stop at the stop light at E. 6th and N. Main. During the chase, Galaraza lost control of his vehicle in the 700 block of Holcomb and was taken into custody shortly thereafter.
