San Angelo Man Arrested for Aggravated Assault with a BB Gun

Yesterday, there were 31 people booked into the Tom Green County Jail for a variety of crimes, but the crime of the evening goes to Andres Andrade, 38, of San Angelo—a man with a violent past. Andrade was arrested for Aggravated Assault with a deadly weapon after pointing a firearm at a family, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.

According to jail records, this is the 18th arrest for Andrade.

Sgt. Solsbery said at 7:23 p.m. yesterday, SAPD officers responded to the area of Shannon Hospital for a call of a subject with a weapon. Officers arrived at the hospital and spoke with the victims. One 27-year-old male victim reported he was driving to Shannon with his family, a 28-year-old female and their 2-year-old son, when Andrade, who was driving a gray pickup, began driving closely to the victims’ vehicle. He tried to go around them but was unable to do so because of traffic.

At the intersection of Chadbourne and Harris, Andrade exited his vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victims. The victims drove away and continued to the hospital, Solsbery stated.

“Andrade followed the victims there and got out of his vehicle and again pointed the gun at the victims,” Solsbery said.

Prior to officers arriving at Shannon, Andrade left; however, he was located driving in the area and was stopped by SAPD. During the investigation, a black BB gun was located in Andrade’s vehicle. Detective Jeremy Cannady was contacted and went to the scene to investigate the incident.

“Due to the ability of the BB gun to cause serious injury and the victims fearing for their life by Andrade pointing the gun at them and threatening to shoot them, Andrade was placed under arrest for Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail,” stated Solsbery.

Andrade, a felon, has a history of unlawfully carrying a weapon as well as aggravated assault. He also has a history of criminal mischief, reckless driving, resisting arrest, retaliation, threatening people and DWI.

In July of 1995, he was arrested on a Manslaughter warrant and bonded out. Records show he was arrested again in Oct. of 1996 on additional charges and the Manslaughter warrant, but was released on probation after serving almost a year in prison.

From that time, Andrade stayed clear, but in 2004, he reoffended and was arrested for Terroristic Threat and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm by a Felon. He is currently being held on a $100,000 Surety Bond.

Other arrests for yesterday included the following:

  • Driving While License Invoked: 1
  • Possession of Marijuana: 2
  • DWI: 1
  • Criminal Trespass: 3
  • Possession of Drug Paraphernalia: 1
  • TDCJ Hold: 4
  • Theft of Property: 1

Out of the 38 arrests, 21 were warrant-related.
