Police: Kid Arrested After Robbing Victim Using a Taser

A San Angelo Juvenile was arrested this morning for robbery via using a Taser to subdue his victim and steal the victim’s backpack and cell phone. The victim was another juvenile.

At 7:36 a.m. this morning, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a robbery near the intersection of East 3rd Street and Pecan.  A witness called and said a juvenile male was walking down the street when another juvenile male approached him, Tased him, and stole his backpack and cell phone.  The suspect was described as a black male wearing a purple and blue jacket.  The juvenile that was attacked sustained only minor injuries.

Information learned during the investigation led to identifying the suspect as a 16-year-old male who lives at the Northgate-Main Apartments, 302 N. Main Street.  While checking the area for the suspect, police located the stolen backpack in the laundry room of the apartment complex.  Police made contact with the grandmother of the juvenile suspect in the apartment where the juvenile lives.  The juvenile was in the apartment and taken into custody without incident.  The grandmother gave consent for officers to search the apartment.  Inside the apartment, officers located the stolen cell phone as well as the Taser that had been used on the victim.

The juvenile was booked into the Juvenile Justice Center where he was charged with Robbery.

Detective Jake Russell is the lead investigator for this case. Because the victim and the suspect are minors, their identities will not be released.
