San Angelo Police Arrest Man After a Foot Chase in a Medical Center Parking Lot

At approximately 7 p.m. Wednesday, San Angelo Police engaged in a brief foot chase with a 33-year-old wanted suspect that began in the parking lot behind West Texas Medical Associates, 3501 Knickerbocker Road, said Tracy Gonzalez, public information officer for SAPD.

Gonzalez said officers received a broadcast message about a wanted subject at the facility prior to the confrontation, and when Officer A. Nandin arrived at the location, he recognized the subject, Tarren Watson, 33, of San Angelo who was standing amongst a group of people in the parking lot.

At that point, Nandin exited his patrol car and attempted to make contact with Watson, but the wanted man ran away. A second officer who responded to assist, C. Gonzales, observed Watson flee and gave chase, Gonzalez stated. The officer pursued Watson and gave him several verbal commands to stop, but the man disregarded the commands and continued to run. Officer Gonzales caught Watson about 80 yards from where the pursuit began, and the the wanted man actively resisted until Officers Gonzales and Nandin secured him in handcuffs.

Gonzalez said during a search of Watson, the officers located an electronic scale and a glass pipe commonly used to “ingest illicit drugs.” Watson received a citation for Drug Paraphernalia and was arrested for two outstanding city warrants, two Midland County warrants, two Tom Green County warrants and Felony Enhanced Evading. The officers then transported Watson to the Tom Green County Jail without incident.

At this time, officers cannot speculate as to why Watson was at the medical facility, but they are certain he may have felt a “little run down after the chase,” Gonzalez noted.
