At approximately 9:07 a.m. Sunday, San Angelo Police responded to a shots fired call at the Comfort Suites, 4450 Houston Harte in room 108, and after a brief standoff, Mateo Flores, 47, surrendered to police. This apparently isn’t the first time Flores has gotten in trouble with a firearm.
“Flores has been charged with Deadly Conduct,” said Sgt. Cade Solsbery in a press release Monday. “It was also learned [that] Flores is a convicted felon. He was also charged with Felon in Possession of a Firearm. Other charges against Flores are possible pending further investigation.”
Originally, when SAPD arrived on the scene at the hotel, officers observed bullet holes in the door of room 108, and immediately evacuated the hotel and established a perimeter around the room. Officers didn’t know how many guests were at the hotel, or if anyone had sustained injuries.
After establishing the perimeter, officers attempted to make contact with anyone in the room by phone, but had no success. Solsbery said the San Angelo Police S.W.A.T. and Crisis Negotiation teams were contacted and responded to the hotel. As these teams were arriving on the scene, officers in the hallway near room 108 could hear a male subject talking inside.
At that point, they gave Flores commands to exit the room unarmed. The suspect complied with the orders and was taken into custody without incident. In an interview with SAPD Sunday, Solsbery said the incident occurred after Flores had an argument with coworkers. He didn’t want to go into work.
Solsbery added that the investigation remains ongoing and Detective Jeremy Cannady is the lead investigator for this case.

It doesn't matter how he got it. Just that he did. Probably stolen. But like you said "a felon with a firearm".
More gun laws ain't going to do the job. He will find a way to get another one soon as he is out. the only way to maybe keep him from getting one is to keep him in jail forever.
