AUSTIN – The Texas Department of Public Safety is offering a cash reward for up to $3,000 for information leading to the capture of a violent sex offender, Jerry Wayne Adaway, 57, who is now on the Texas 10 Most Wanted Sex Offenders list, and who failed to register as a sex offender, said a DPS press release Wednesday.

According to the press release, Adaway is 5 feet 11 inches tall and weighs approximately 200 pounds. He has tattoos on both arms, his left hand, and chest, scars on his back and chest, and needle marks on both arms. Adaway is known for using false or fraudulent identification and may wear glasses.

DPS officials also said Adaway has ties to the Houston area, which was his last known address, and he has ties to New Orleans, Louisiana. Adaway was convicted in 1982 and 2007 for raping and sexually assaulting two 16-year-old girls, one in Harris County and the other in Travis County. He has a criminal history filled with a sex offender registration violation, robbery and possession of a controlled substance. For more information or updates in the event of his arrest, click here.

Funded by the Governor’s Criminal Justice Division, Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the Texas 10 Most Wanted fugitives or sex offenders.

DPS noted that to be eligible for the cash rewards, there are five different ways to provide anonymous tips (all tips are anonymous regardless of how they’re submitted):

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive and Sex Offender lists. You can find the current lists – with photos – on the DPS website at http://www.dps.texas.gov/texas10mostwanted/.

DPS also stated that individuals should not attempt to apprehend fugitives like Adaway because they are considered armed and dangerous.
