Aggravated Assault and DWIs Top This Weekend’s Crime List in San Angelo

At 12:39 a.m. on Sept. 12, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a residence in the 500 block of Koberlin Street for an assault on 42-year-old Ruben Lara, who was found unconscious on the living room floor with a head injury from a blunt object, said Sgt. Cade Solsbery, public information officer for SAPD.

Solsbery also said San Angelo Fire Department Medics treated Lara; and he was transported to Shannon Medical Center and admitted for his injuries. At this time, his current condition is unknown.

Detective Russell, who investigated the incident, identified John Barragan, 51, of San Angelo as the assailant. He was located later that morning walking in the 400 block of North Chadbourne St. Apparently, Barragan and Lara engaged in an argument, which led to Barragan hitting Lara with a metal pipe.

Solsbery said Barragan was taken into custody without incident, transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Aggravated Assault Causing Serious Bodily Injury.

In addition to this Aggravated Assault case, 16 people were arrested for Driving While Intoxicated, which beat the list of criminal charges this past weekend.

Seven people alone were arrested Friday for DWI, and another nine on Saturday. Other common arrest charges included driving with an invoked or invalid license, possession of marijuana, controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, criminal trespass, theft, public intoxication, assault, unauthorized use of a vehicle, burglary of a habitat, assault of a public servant and resisting arrest.

Overall, there were a total of 88 arrests.
