Police Arrest Man For Burglarizing and Shooting Up Home in South San Angelo

Neighbors called police at 9:43 p.m. Saturday night to report shots fired and a suspicious Hispanic man in a three-piece suit wielding a weapon in the front yard of a home in the 1700 block of Loganwood Dr.

Arriving just two minutes later, the first unit on the scene immediately identified a man matching the caller’s description. He was immediately placed into police custody, with the officer treating the suspect as if he was armed.

During the course of the investigation, police determined that the suspect had gained entry to one home on Loganwood when the owners and occupants were not home.

San Angelo Police Officer Tracy Gonzalez said that police discovered evidence that the home had been burglarized. In addition, there is evidence that several gun shots were fired inside the home and from inside to outside the home. One bullet struck a neighbor’s car in the driveway next door.

Several backup units were called to aid in clearing the house. Police initially did not know how many suspects were involved. After clearing the home in question, and performing door-to-door welfare checks on all of the other occupants and homes in that part of the neighborhood, police are certain that there is only one suspect.

Arrested on two charges, deadly conduct and burglary of a habitation, was Miguel Hernandez Tapia, 41. “He is the only suspect police have arrested, we do not have any other suspects in custody, and we have checked the surrounding area,” Gonzalez said.

Gonzalez said that the investigation has only begun and that CSI is documenting the crime scene.

There were no injuries, Gonzalez said.
