Police Search for Items Stolen from Murdered Officer Possibly Sold Online

ABILENE – During the homicide of Officer Don Allen, numerous duty related items were stolen from the Allen residence.

Several of those items were recovered during the execution of search warrants Thursday. The recovered items include a taser, Asp Baton, two pair of handcuffs, a police clipboard, and an old style Abilene police badge. These were located at the suspects’ residence and in their vehicle.

Still missing are:

  • A Glock model 22 .40 caliber handgun
  • The actual duty belt
  • A Harris brand police radio (which has been remotely disabled)
  • 1 can of OC spray
  • 1 Streamlight Stinger flashlight

Tip information called into the Abilene Police Department has indicated that both Phillip and Violetta Walter sold several household items throughout the past week in order to raise money. These transactions occurred both online and in person. The Walters attempted to sell some of the listed police items as well.

It is both a state and federal crime to possess a stolen firearm. It is a state crime to possess stolen property. We believe that many of the purchasers involved in transactions with the Walters may not know the items they possess are stolen. We are prepared to work with those who may have unknowingly purchased these items to safely return them to the police department.

If you purchased items from either Phillip or Violetta Walter, on or after Aug. 31, 2015 please contact the Abilene Police Department. It doesn’t matter if you purchased the firearm or what you think may be a benign household item, please contact the APD immediately. The Abilene Police Department can be reached at 325-673-8331 (non-emergency) or via the tip line at 325-676-6598. There is also an email address set up to relay information at [email protected].
