AMARILLO – During a traffic stop Tuesday at approximately 4:22 p.m. on IH-40, a Texas Department of Public Safety trooper yielded over 34 pounds of marijuana valued at over $211,000, said DPS in a press release Wednesday.
The occupants of a 2014 Nissan Maxima passenger car, whom the trooper identified as Mynor Ivan Arana, 26, of Houston and Nourak Chanthalangsy, 32, of Fresno, California, were heading eastbound on IH-40 near Vega and Oldham County when DPS pulled the car over. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 32 bundles of marijuana in the truck.
After the discovery, DPS placed Arana and Chanthalangsy under arrest for possession of marijuana over five pounds but less than 50, a third degree felony. Both men were booked into the Oldham County Jail. DPS officials said the illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Fresno, California to Norman, Oklahoma.
