At approximately 2 p.m. today, Enrico Valdez, 32, a subject wanted for a federal probation violation warrant, engaged the San Angelo Police Department and U.S. Marshals on a high speed chase through the Capitol Heights neighborhood, said Sergeant Cade Solsbery, public information officer for the San Angelo Police Department.
Solsbery said officials from the U.S. Marshal's office originally contacted SAPD patrol units about assisting in a joint effort to stop Valdez. Thus, when SAPD came in contact with a black Chrysler 300 at around Sunset and Cox, the vehicle driven by Valdez, the suspect sped away. Both SAPD and U.S. Marshals chased Valdez into the Capitol Heights community.
"During the pursuit, the suspect collided with three different vehicles," Sgt. Solsbery said. "He collided with a 2003 Ford F-250 on Parkview and two vehicles on Idaho, a 2003 Gray Nissan and a 2000 blue Ford F-150." Sgt. Solsbery noted that the last two crashes occurred at the termination point of the pursuit in the 1800 block of Idaho. After he crashed, the suspect exited the vehicle and a short foot pursuit occurred. He was taken into a custody about half a block where the initial crash occurred in the vehicle pursuit.
At the time of his arrest, Valdez had seven grams of methamphetamine in possession, so he's currently under arrest for a state parole violation warrant, a federal probation violation warrant, which was unlawful transport of firearms, and now faces felony of evading in a motor vehicle and manufactured delivery of controlled substance, penalty 1, which is 4 - 200 grams.
Solsbery added that there were no injuries in the pursuit or crashes, just damage to the vehicles. Because the incident is in the early stages of the investigation, it is unknown whether there were other occupants in the car with Valdez, or if the suspect had any weapons.
After the chase, which lasted about two minutes, SAPD took Valdez into custody; he has been transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
