Man Indicted on Three Counts of Child Abuse

A 50-year-old San Angelo man has been indicted on three counts of injury to a child with intentional bodily injury.

Authorities say that Brett Allen Brooksmith abused a 13-year-old boy on May 12 this year; that boy later reported the abuse to someone at his school. Brooksmith was indicted on the charges on July 8 and was booked into the Tom Green County Jail on Tuesday evening by sheriff's deputies. He is being held in lieu of a $50,000 surety bond.

In addition to Brooksmith, 21 others were booked into the jail on Tuesday, including three charged with public intoxication, two charged with DWI, two charged with pot possession and one charged with assault. Twenty-five inmates were released.
