Another Texas Resident Sentenced to 100 Months in Federal Prison on Child Pornography Conviction

DALLAS – A Grand Prairie, Texas, man, Luis Vasquez-Sanchez, 34, who is a citizen of Honduras, was sentenced this morning by U.S. District Judge Ed Kinkeade to 100 months in federal prison. Vasquez-Sanchez pleaded guilty in March 2015 to one count transportation of child pornography, said John Parker, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas.

Vasquez-Sanchez, who has been in custody since his arrest in January of this year for a related federal criminal complaint, will be referred for deportation proceedings following his incarceration.

A U.S. Department of Justice press release stated the investigation began in July 2014 when a detective with the Plano Police Department, who was working undercover to identify people participating in the distribution of child pornography and the sexual exploitation of children through the use of peer-to-peer file sharing, identified Vasquez-Sanchez as an individual linked to a computer making images of child pornography available to share.

In January, special agents with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s (ICE) Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) contacted and interviewed Vasquez-Sanchez at his residence. He allowed agents to search his computer. During a forensic examination of the computer, officials revealed more than 100 images and 50 videos of child pornography. Some of the images and videos Vasquez-Sanchez had collected depicted sadistic and/or violent content, and some of the files depicted infants and toddlers.

This case was part of Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative launched in May 2006 by the Department of Justice to combat the growing epidemic of child sexual exploitation and abuse.
