Gun-Wielding Bar Patron Threatens Lives of Dancers

A 41-year-old San Angelo man allegedly entered La Copa Cabana bar on Sunday morning with a gun and threatened two patrons' lives.

According to police, a 50-year-old Hispanic male and a 38-year-old Hispanic female had entered the bar at just before 1 a.m. and begun dancing when Johnny Mondito Hernandez entered the bar at 1329 Hughes St. and pointed the gun at the couple, threatening to kill them both.

San Angelo police officers were called to the scene and caught Hernandez in the parking lot before he could leave the premises. He was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and booked for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and unlawful carrying weapon on alcohol premises.

La Copa Cobana is no stranger to gunmen making threats; in March of this year the bar was facing a 35-day TABC closure due to a similar incident that involved an armed subject and a bartender.

In addition to the incident at the bar on Sunday morning for which Hernandez was jailed, 20 others were booked, while 15 were released.
