Downtown Bar Fights and a Hookah Lounge Fight Keep San Angelo Police Busy

 

Two bar fights and one fight in the parking lot of a San Angelo Hookah bar landed six people in jail early Sunday morning.

According to the San Angelo police, a bouncer at Wise Guys Bar, 119 S. Chadbourne St., saw the City Marshal across the street at another bar and asked him to come help keep the peace inside Wise Guys. Inside, the marshal witnessed two females in a fight. At 12:41 a.m., the marshal reported, he apprehended one female, Rebecca Salcedo Leon (7/20/1979), for assault causing bodily injury.

Wise Guys didn’t stay tranquil for long, however. Later that early morning, a San Angelo police patrol unit on directed patrol called for backup. According to police, at 1:16 a.m. SAPD broke up a second fight inside Wise Guys. Joel Alfaro (8/13/1988) and Ray Juarez (1/1/1983) were arrested for disorderly conduct affray. Both bonded out with a $442 surety bond, jail records indicate.

Later Sunday morning, at 4:02 a.m., police were dispatched to the parking lot in front of Mama’s Hookah Lounge, 1618 S. Chadbourne St., where a man was reported to be wielding a handgun.

Upon arrival, police said they encountered a large crowd in the parking lot. Two males were fighting, and a third male drew a handgun, attempting to break up the fight, witnesses reported to police.

Police determined that Steven West (4/15/1982) and David Acevedo (7/19/1971) were fighting and both were booked into jail on disorderly conduct charges. Acevedo was also found in possession of a controlled substance, less than 1 gram. Both posted a $442 surety bond.

A third suspect in the Mama’s Hookah Lounge Parking Lot Fight was identified as Jose Ponce (9/9/1985). He is the one alleged to have pulled the handgun, explaining that he was just trying to break up the fight. Police found that he had a handgun in his possession and he was charged with unlawfully carrying a weapon. He posted a $500 surety bond.

Other Jail News

Previously, TABC booked two early Saturday morning for fighting: Miguel Angel Rios (4/13/81), and Rivero Villasuso Soisel (5/21/1975). Both were booked just after midnight Saturday morning.

On Friday, July 17, an even 28 inmates were booked into and 28 inmates were released from the county jail. Of those booked in on complaints, one person was jailed for Class C assault and resisting arrest, while another was jailed for public intoxication. The remainder were booked on warrants, including 58-year-old Rudolph Raymond Hernandez, who was booked on warrants associated with two counts of indecency with a child sexual contact. Hernandez was indicted on the two charges on July 8 and is being held in lieu of a $25,000 surety bond.

Traffic into the jail increased on Saturday, July 18, when 38 individuals were booked into the facility. The majority of those were charged with alcohol-related offenses, including four accused of driving while intoxicated, two charged with public intoxication and one booked for minor in consumption. An additional one person apiece was jailed for fleeing a police officer, assault, marijuana possession and evading arrest. Twenty-one individuals were released on Saturday

Sunday was by far the busiest day for non-warrant arrests, despite only 28 being booked into the jail. Among those booked were five jailed for public intoxication, three jailed for DWI, three jailed for assault, two booked for theft, two booked for marijuana possession and one booked for burglary. Twenty-five individuals were released on Sunday, July 19.
