DPS Trooper Seizes over 28 Pounds of Marijuana

 

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Friday on IH-40, yielding over 28 pounds of marijuana valued at over $172,000.

At approximately 6:23 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Chrysler 200 passenger car traveling eastbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Amarillo in Potter County.

The occupants of the Chrysler were identified as Jason Rivera, 31, of Jacksonville, Fla., and Oscar Candelario, 27, of Middleburg, Fla. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered 22 bundles of marijuana in the trunk.

Rivera and Candelario were placed under arrest for possession of marijuana over five pounds but less than fifty, a third-degree felony, and booked into the Potter County Jail. The illegal drugs were allegedly being transported from Sacramento, Calif., to Jacksonville, Fla.
