The first of five men arrested for online solicitation of a minor last winter during a DPS sting has been sentenced to four years in the penitentiary after pleading guilty in Judge Been Woodward's court.
David Ernest Garcia, 44, was arrested for the third-degree felony charge on Dec. 12, when detectives with the Department of Public Safety and the San Angelo Police Department's Special Ops Section pulled together for a weeklong sting targeted at online predators.
Garcia spent three days in jail before posting a $30,000 surety bond. He was indicted on the charge in February.
On June 24, Garcia appeared in court, clad in a large, collared T-shirt with the seam of his white undershirt peaking out below the hem, loose fitting black pajama pants and a pair of Nike sneakers. He sat quietly during the proceedings and confessed his guilt, waiving his right to apeal before the judge handed down a sentence of four years confinement and a life duty to register as a sex offender.
Attorney Rudy Taylor served as Garcia's legal counsel; 51st Assistant District Attorney Jason Ferguson prosecuted the case.
