DPS Trooper Seizes Over $97,000

 

AMARILLO – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) conducted a traffic stop Tuesday on IH-40, yielding over $97,000 in US currency.

At approximately 2:27 p.m., a DPS trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2015 Hyundai Sonata traveling westbound on IH-40, for a traffic violation, near Conway in Carson County.

The driver of the Sonata was identified as Rodrigo Gomes Queiroz, 33, of Miami Beach, Fla. During the traffic stop, the trooper discovered a vacuum-sealed bag of US currency in the trunk.

Queiroz was placed under arrest for money laundering, a third-degree felony, and booked into the Carson County Jail. The illegal cash was allegedly being transported from Cary, N.C., to San Francisco.
