Police Provide Update on Wednesday Afternoon Standoff

 

A San Angelo man who barricaded himself in a house yesterday after holding his girlfriend at gunpoint is reported to have said police would have to shoot him if they wanted him to come out.

On May 6, 2015 at approximately 11:35 a.m., San Angelo Police responded to a residence in the 2300 block of Senisa Trail for subject with a weapon. It was learned this was also a domestic disturbance.

When police arrived, the male subject was in front of the residence, but he went inside after Officers attempted to make contact with him.  The male subject was later identified as 35-year-old Anastacio Govea. Officers made contact with the 33-year-old Hispanic female victim in the front of the residence. The victim reported Govea pointed a handgun at her, threatened to kill her, and told her if the police responded they would have to shoot him.

A perimeter was established around the residence and the Crisis Negotiation Team and SWAT team were dispatched to the location. Officers attempted to make contact with Govea for several hours without making contact. At approximately 4:00 p.m., Govea surrendered himself to police and was taken into custody without incident. 

Govea was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon family violence.
