Central Graffiti Artist Sentenced to Probation

A 19-year-old was sentenced to five years probation last Tuesday, after pleading guilty to the May 23 graffiti on Central High School’s Newton Building.

Jeremiah Mendez Sosa also pled guilty to possession of methamphetamine, a state jail felony, and received five years probation for that charge as well.

According to a complaint filed with the court, an eyewitness saw two people tagging the building between 12:30 and 1 a.m. on May 23, and by 1:15 p.m., the school was abuzz with rumors that Sosa had been involved.

The graffiti, which featured messages such as “STK”, “PEACE!”, “TIME 2 SHINE” and “HER ONE”, was painted in black, orange and blue spray paint, the complaint states. “HER ONE” is Sosa’s known tag name, a friend confirmed for police.

When a special ops agent with the San Angelo Police Department made contact with Sosa, he stated he had no involvement in the graffiti, but admitted he is a member of STK, or Still Together Krew, a group of friends that had been involved in past graffiti at Central High School.

Sosa said he had gone to Walmart on the night the graffiti took place, and that he had then driven home. Surveillance footage from the 29th St. Walmart showed Sosa purchasing orange, blue and black spray paint at approximately 11:49 p.m. on May 22, just an hour and a half before the school was tagged.

He also proceeded to make posts on Facebook that included photos of drawings containing the words “STK” and “HER ONE”, and wrote on his wall the evening after the graffiti “Never saw it coming, now they can’t forget it! (;”

On May 29, Jeremiah Sosa was arrested for graffiti on a school and possession of methamphetamine, both state jail felonies. On Feb. 10, Sosa pled guilty to both charges, and was put on probation for five years. For the graffiti, he has been ordered to pay $648.11 restitution, and for the meth he’s been ordered to pay $180 restitution.

Sosa’s accomplice, 18-year-old Carlos Mendieta, has yet to have his charges heard.
