Gunfire heard in north San Angelo early Saturday evening is currently being investigated by detectives with the San Angelo Police Department, who discovered bullet casings outside a residence after responding to the call.
The call came in at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 3, Public Information Officer Brian Robinson explained, and units promptly responded to the 1200 block of 24th St.
Upon arrival, officers located .40 caliber bullet casings, however the quantity has not been disclosed.
No one was injured in the shooting and police have not named any suspects, but the case remains under investigation.
Several shots fired calls are made weekly, the majority of which turn out to be erroneous reports triggered by the sound of fireworks and other noises that sound similar to gunfire.
At least five calls were made on Saturday alone to report shots fired all over the city.
At the end of November, detectives relayed that they were investigating a case in the 400 block of Koberlin St. in which at least one round was fired at and hit a car.
The gunfire was reported around 4:20 a.m., and no one was injured. An investigation was launched into the shooting at that time.
Another fairly recent report of a drive-by shooting was proven false when the victim caved after questioning and admitted his friend had accidentally shot him in the leg. Neither wanted to get into trouble, so they fabricated the drive-by story, but two hours into the investigation, had a change of heart.
As reports mount and investigations are opened, police are always seeking information from the public relevant to the case. If you have any information on Saturday night's shooting, call the San Angelo Police Department at (325)-657-4498 or call crime stoppers at (325) 658-4357.
