A barefoot burglar and his accomplice were arrested yesterday after they were located inside a local restaurant, thanks to citizens who alerted police to their whereabouts.
Shortly after 5:15 yesterday, San Angelo Police were dispatched to a burglary in progress at a residence located in the unit block of west 15th Street. While enroute to the call, responding officers received information that two white male suspects fled the residence and headed south on foot in the direction of 14th and Chadbourne Streets. The suspects were described as wearing green and gray T-shirts. One was also described as being bald and barefoot.
Officers who responded to the area of 14th and Chadbourne and were flagged down by a citizen who saw the men, and directed officers to the Hidalgo’s restaurant located at 1315 N. Chadbourne. Officers T. Dietz and J. Jones entered the restaurant and discovered the men attempting to conceal themselves in one of the booths. One of the men was bald and not wearing shoes. Both men were taken into custody and identified as 27-year-old Victor J. Spence and 21-year-old Lukas T. Morton of San Angelo. Police also seized a blue backpack from under the booth where the men had been seated.
Subsequent to the investigation, police learned the men had burglarized the residence and fled after being confronted by people who arrived to check on the property. During a search of the backpack, police located miscellaneous property that was confirmed to have been stolen from the residence. Those items were returned to the owner.
Spence and Morton were both charged with Burglary of a Habitation and transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
