Man Arrested for Burglary and Drugs After Foot Chase

A broadcast call regarding a suspicious person lead to the arrest of the suspect and seizure of illegal narcotics and suspected stolen property Thursday afternoon.

On Aug. 21, at approximately 4:37 p.m., dispatch received a call regarding a suspicious person in the 3700 block of N. Chadbourne St.  A neighbor called and  stated the male subject was possibly trying to steal property from a nearby residence.  While officers were responding to the area, dispatch sent out a radio message stating the suspect had left the area.

SAPD Officer L. Cortinas, arrived first and located the suspect in the 3300 block of N. Chadbourne St. and activated his emergency lights for safety and to notify the suspect to stop.  The suspect turned to see Officer Cortinas in his vehicle with his emergency lights activated and ran away from him on foot.  The suspect continued to flee through several alley ways and backyards until he was taken into custody by Detective T. Griffith and Officer B. Stewart in the 3100 block of Orchard St.

After the suspect was taken into custody, he was identified as 27-year-old Macario Perales of San Angelo.  Once officers placed Perales under arrest, a search of his person revealed a syringe and a small bag containing a white substance that tested positive for methamphetamine.  Perales was also in possession of a wallet and a bag of tools that may have been taken in a burglary.  The wallet and tools were seized and further investigation is needed to determine if a burglary took place. One of the property owners wished to file a criminal trespass charge against Perales, as he jumped a locked fence to enter the property while attempting to elude police.  Perales was transported to the Tom Green County Jail and charged with Evading Arrest/ Detention, Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1, and Criminal Trespass.

No further information will be released at this time pending further investigation

I REFUSE to believe this young gentle Latino would evade arrest, trespass, and have drugs on his person. It's just so unbelievable, rumor has it he put his hands up and yelled "don't shoot".
Tom Green County Judge Penny reprimanding the defendant in court: "I thought I told you I never wanted to see you in here again Mr. Perales!" "Judge Penny" says Perales, "that's what I tried to tell the police, but they wouldn't listen."
My God, just look at that face .... Any mother would be ashamed to claim that !!!! But thanks to all of us hard working people, we supply him with all the food stamps he can use, any medical bill he might incur we pick up the tab for, and for sure we wouldn't want him to be uncomfortable so he lives in a nice HUD house paid for out of our deductions on paychecks all so he can have all the free time he needs to prowl around until he spots something you bought and paid for that he wants for himself.......
How can it be that this upstanding looking citizen is being accused of [yeah, I didn't read that either]? What a travesty! Oh, wait. I'm sorry. I'm being [fill in the blank]! How dare I! I understand. There's got to be reason I didn't make this guy. But what I don't understand is how he could have disappeared from society so easily. Must be the tear under his eye...... idiot
