Thor Sniffs out Meth in a Traffic Stop

A 47-year-old San Angelo man was arrested on drug charges after a Police K9 smelled contraband during a traffic stop.

Randy Allen Summerlin was arrested just before midnight Wednesday on charges of Possession of a Controlled Substance Penalty Group 1 less than 1 Gram and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia during a traffic stop in the 800 block of E. 42nd Street.  During the stop, Officers requested K9 Team Officer J. Fisher and his Police Service Dog Thor to the scene to conduct an exterior air sniff of Summerlin’s vehicle.

During the “sniff”, Thor gave a positive alert on the passenger side door of the vehicle.   When officers searched the vehicle, they located drug paraphernalia and a crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for the presence of methamphetamine.

Summerlin was transported to the Tom Green County Jail.
