A fleeing ATV motorist crashed while being pursued by police on Red Bluff Road near Lake Nasworthy Tuesday afternoon.
According to police officers on the scene, the San Angelo Lake Division Police patrol witnessed the ATV traveling at a high rate of speed headed eastbound on Red Bluff. They engaged in a pursuit to pull it over.
But distance between the police and the ATV was a factor when the ATV disappeared over a slight hill on the road and police lost sight.
Upon crossing the hill, police said they observed the ATV crashed into a fence. The driver was injured with lacerations to his head.
San Angelo EMS Medic 7 and Pumper Truck 8 and crew responded to the scene.
The ATV is identified as a dark green Polaris brand.
Police Officer Eric Underwood who is leading the investigation said that City Ordinance does not allow the operation of ATVs on the public roadway.
The ATV driver was seen standing and walking around at the crash scene, but his injuries “looked pretty bad,” according to a witness at the scene.
No citations were issued at the crash scene. The officers will continue their investigation by interviewing the crash victim at Shannon Medical Center.
