Perp Tased Twice in Muddy Police Battle

The late afternoon Easter Sunday, Officers responded to the Creekside Apartments located at 3018 Knickerbocker Rd. in reference to an Assault in progress. Upon arriving on scene, police confronted a white male leaving an apartment and the subject refused to comply with verbal commands as he pushed passed officers.

Officers attempted to subdue the subject by deploying the Taser which was unsuccessful several times.

The subject continued to resist officers and ran towards the Red Arroyo area located behind the Creekside Apartments. Several officers responded to the scene to assist with taking the subject into custody.

The subject was finally subdued and arrested after a lengthy struggle. Police immediately had the suspect transported to Shannon Medical Center for treatment due to wounds sustained during the struggle.

The suspect was Jerry Lee Smith, 34.

After arresting and then securing Smith to the ambulance’s gurney for transport to Shannon, the whereabouts of the victim of the strangulation assault was unknown. Eventually, though, police were able to make contact later Sunday evening. There was also a child involved in the assault, but police are not releasing more details.

Det. Bobby Elrod responded to scene in reference to an investigation into further charges.

The victims' names are not being released at this time due to ongoing investigation in reference to the alleged domestic dispute.
