Driver Fleeing at 123 MPH Crashes in San Angelo, Injuring Two

SAN ANGELO, TX — A driver fleeing Texas state troopers at 123 mph crashed Thursday morning near North Bryant Boulevard and West 7th Street, injuring two people and closing multiple lanes of traffic.

According to Sgt. Justin Baker with the Department of Public Safety, troopers first spotted the Hyundai Elantra speeding on U.S. 87 near the Tom Green County line. When they attempted a stop, the driver accelerated and headed into San Angelo.

Troopers lost sight of the vehicle around 19th Street, but minutes later, officers were called to a crash at U.S. 87 and 7th Street. Investigators said the Hyundai struck a Honda Civic, spun out of control, and sideswiped a Chevrolet Silverado.

Both the Hyundai’s driver and the Honda’s driver were transported to a hospital. The Silverado’s driver was not injured.

Baker said the Hyundai’s driver will be charged with evading arrest. San Angelo Police issued an advisory at 7:50 a.m. asking drivers to avoid the area. The investigation is ongoing.
