18-Wheeler Carrying Cattle Overturns South of Paint Rock, Closes U.S. 83 for Hours

PAINT ROCK, TX – A cattle-hauling 18-wheeler overturned Friday, shutting down U.S. Highway 83 south of Paint Rock for several hours, according to the Eden Volunteer Fire Department.

Firefighters from Eden and Paint Rock, along with the Concho County Sheriff’s Office, Texas Department of Public Safety, and Texas Department of Transportation, responded to the crash. The truck, carrying a load of cows, left the roadway and overturned, leaving the animals stranded.

Authorities worked for hours to secure the cattle and clear the wreckage. Images from the scene show the heavily damaged truck on its side off the roadway, while responders corralled the cows into temporary fencing.

There is no word yet on injuries to the driver or livestock. U.S. 83 has since reopened. The cause of the crash is unknown.
