VIDEO: Multiple Crashes Reported in West Texas During Dust Storm

UPTON COUNTY, TX — Drivers are being urged to avoid several major roadways in West Texas as zero visibility has led to multiple crashes and road closures.

The Upton County Sheriff’s Office issued an advisory on Friday, urging motorists to avoid North 349 up to the Midland County line due to zero visibility. The post also noted accidents along FM 1555. These conditions have significantly impacted travel in the area.

Confirmed reports highlight the following affected roadways:

  • U.S. 285 north of Pecos (from CR 402 to CR 424): A multi-vehicle crash has forced a full closure of the road.
  • S. 349 between Rankin and Midland: Multiple crashes have been reported, including incidents 30 minutes south of Midland near Barnwell SWD.
  • SCR 1210 between WCR 140 and WCR 150: A major crash is causing delays, with an estimated clearance time of 45 minutes.
  • Highway 137 north of Big Lake: Multiple crashes are affecting travel along this route.
  • Battle Axe Road (6 miles from J1): A Hydrovac truck has overturned, adding to the hazardous conditions.

Officials have emphasized the importance of avoiding these areas until conditions improve. Drivers are advised to exercise caution, monitor local updates, and delay non-essential travel. Emergency services and road crews are working to address the accidents and restore normal traffic flow.
