VIDEO: Fire Destroys Abandoned Building in Abilene, Causes $133K in Damage

ABILENE, TX — A fire early Wednesday morning destroyed an abandoned structure on Hickory Street, resulting in an estimated $133,000 in damage, according to the Abilene Fire Department.

Crews responded to the 3000 block just before 3 a.m. and found the building fully engulfed in flames. A second alarm was called shortly after the initial attack to provide additional support and protect nearby structures. Nearby homes were evacuated as a precaution.

The AMBUS, a mobile ambulance bus from Station 4, was deployed as a rest and rehabilitation center for firefighters battling the blaze in freezing temperatures.

No injuries were reported, and the structure, which was unoccupied and abandoned, is considered a total loss. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
