Nearby Officer Hears Crash on Chadbourne That Sends Driver to Hospital

SAN ANGELO, TX — A crash at the intersection of Ninth Street and Chadbourne Street sent one driver to the hospital Thursday morning and prompted a traffic alert for the area.

Both drivers had minor injuries upon the arrival of officers, who were dispatched for the crash, an officer with the San Angelo Police Department said. One driver was transported to Shannon Medical Center for further evaluation.

A nearby officer who was assisting with a broken-down 18-wheeler heard the crash, after which the call was dispatched, the officer said. The crash occurred at the intersection after one driver attempted to merge into traffic without doing so safely and struck the other car.

The other driver was cited for the traffic violation. No serious damage was observed on either vehicle. The crash was between a Chrysler Town & Country minivan and a Hyundai Tucson SUV. The SUV pulled over on West 8th Street, and the minivan pulled over into a lot located between 9th and 8th streets.

San Angelo police issued a Nixle alert at about 9:20 a.m., advising drivers to avoid Chadbourne Street from 7th to 9th streets due to the motor vehicle accident and a disabled vehicle.
