High Noon Vehicle Fire Slows Traffic on U.S. 87

SAN ANGELO, TX — A vehicle fire made an already hot day much hotter amid a heat advisory when a semitruck burst into flames on U.S. 87 Thursday.

Emergency dispatchers received reports of the fire shortly before noon. According to dispatch audio, the semitruck was fully engulfed in flames at one point as firefighters responded to the scene.

The fire occurred on the southbound lanes of U.S. 87 near Brown's Pool.

The San Angelo Fire Department dispatched firefighters to the scene, who quickly contained the blaze. When our reporter arrived at the scene, the fire had been extinguished.

The southbound lanes of U.S. 87 were reduced to a single lane while firefighters completed suppression efforts and crews cleared the scene, causing traffic delays in the area.

The San Angelo Fire Marshal's Office responded to investigate the cause of the fire. Officials have not released what sparked the blaze, and the investigation remains ongoing.

The fire occurred as much of West Texas remained under a heat advisory, with temperatures climbing into the triple digits Thursday afternoon. Fire officials have not indicated whether the extreme heat played a role in the incident.
