Sweetwater Woman, 72, Killed in Nolan County Crash

SWEETWATER, TX — A 72-year-old Sweetwater woman was killed Wednesday night in a single-vehicle crash in Nolan County after her pickup failed to stop at a stop sign, struck an embankment and overturned, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Dora Gail Schenkenberg was driving a 2026 Ford Maverick pickup eastbound on County Road 220 when she approached the intersection with Farm-to-Market Road 1856 around 9:45 p.m. The intersection is controlled by a stop sign. The preliminary investigation showed she continued through the intersection, struck an embankment and the vehicle overturned, DPS said.

Schenkenberg, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to Rolling Plains Hospital in Sweetwater and pronounced deceased at 11:26 p.m. by Dr. Karim Jabar.

No one else was injured. Weather conditions were clear, the road was dry and the posted speed limit was 60 mph.
