BRONTE, TX — A truck tractor towing a reefer semi-trailer overturned Friday near an intersection on US 277 in Bronte, ripping open its cargo area and spilling cucumbers and packaging across the roadway. A second vehicle that appeared to be a pickup also was seen rolled over.
The crash left the semi truck lying on its side with heavy damage to the cargo box. Debris — including black plastic crates, cardboard, insulation material, and scattered cucumbers — covered parts of the highway and shoulder.
In one photo from the scene, a man, purportedly the semi-truck driver, wearing a light blue shirt, dark pants, and a white bandage or wrap on his right hand walks through the wreckage near the damaged truck and a nearby building with a torn metal wall and roll-up door.
Emergency crews, including Bronte VFD and Texas DPS, responded to the scene. Traffic was being diverted around the cucumber-strewn roadway while crews worked to clear the spill.
The truck driver appeared to have been treated at the scene for minor injuries. No other vehicles appear to have been involved in the rollover.
The crash happened at a red light on the south side of Bronte on US 277.
