14-Year-Old Dies in Winkler County Rollover Crash Driven by 13-Year-Old

KERMIT, TX — A 14-year-old boy was killed, and four other teenagers were injured when a pickup truck driven by a 13-year-old girl rolled over in Winkler County late Sunday, authorities said.

The crash occurred about 11:08 p.m. on County Road 201, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

A 2006 Chevrolet Silverado was traveling eastbound when it veered off the roadway. The driver, a 13-year-old girl, attempted to steer back onto the road, but the vehicle side-skidded and rolled, DPS said.

One passenger, a 14-year-old boy, was ejected and pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver and two other passengers — another 13-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy — suffered serious injuries and were not wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. A fourth passenger, a 14-year-old girl who was wearing a seatbelt, sustained minor injuries.

No names have been released. The crash remains under investigation.
