Victim in Electric Wheelchair Hit in Crash on Chadbourne

SAN ANGELO, TX — San Angelo police responded to a major crash on N. Chadbourne Street around 10:45 p.m. Thursday. Upon arrival, officers found an individual who had been ejected from their electric wheelchair and at least one crashed vehicle. By the time San Angelo LIVE! arrived at the scene, emergency medical services had already transported the victim to a hospital.

An eyewitness at the scene, speaking unofficially, reported that the driver of an unidentified vehicle no longer at the scene collided with one or more other vehicles near 17th Street before fleeing, making this a hit-and-run investigation. During the escape, the vehicle apparently struck the victim in the electric wheelchair. Police have not yet released any official statements on the incident.

Authorities have blocked off N. Chadbourne Street at 17th and 18th streets. Tow services from Home Motors have not yet arrived, and the overturned wheelchair remains at the scene as it was when police first responded. It appeared to us police are embarking upon a major crash investigation.

The response suggests a serious crash investigation, typically reserved for incidents involving major bodily injury or fatality.

San Angelo LIVE! has reached out to the San Angelo Police Department through public affairs for more details and anticipates a response by Friday morning. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
