One Dead in Multi-Vehicle Crash on Icy I-10

JUNCTION, TX — A 56-year-old Florida man died in a chain-reaction crash involving multiple vehicles on Interstate 10 in Kimble County during snowy, icy conditions, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

It happened at 6:30 p.m. Jan. 24 near mile marker 470.

John Robert Tracy of Lutz, Florida, was driving a 2017 Toyota pickup eastbound when it was struck by another vehicle, sending it into the south ditch. This triggered collisions among the other units, including four tractor-trailers, a box truck, a Dodge van, and an Audi passenger car. One detached trailer landed on Tracy’s pickup.

Tracy was wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene by Justice of the Peace Josh Cantrell.

DPS stated that a total of 12 vehicles were involved.

The number of injured is unknown. Roads were icy due to snow and sleet. Troopers are still identifying all occupants and determining the exact sequence of events. No further details released.
