BROWN COUNTY, TX — An 18-year-old Lampasas man was killed Saturday afternoon in a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 377, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.
The crash happened at 2:44 p.m. on Nov. 1 at milepost 432 during rainy and wet roadway conditions. DPS said an 18-year-old pickup driver, identified as Brayden Lynn Baldwin of Lampasas, lost control of a 2017 GMC while traveling south, driving off the right side of the highway.
Baldwin attempted to steer back onto the roadway, causing the truck to skid across both southbound lanes and into the path of a 2024 Freightliner truck tractor towing a semi-trailer. The vehicles collided, and the pickup caught fire with Baldwin pinned inside. He died at the scene.
The Freightliner driver, 49-year-old James Chadwick Hardy of Garland, suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts.
DPS said the investigation is ongoing.
The posted speed limit in the area is 55 miles per hour.
