WATCH: Crash at Civic League Park Nearly Ends in Disaster

SAN ANGELO, TX— An early morning crash nearly ended in disaster as a vehicle veered off the road and almost splashed down into the Concho River and turned an SUV into a houseboat.

Around 2:00 a.m. on October 8, 2025, a major crash was called and radio traffic made it seem like a vehicle crashed into the Concho River. On scene, reporters observed several San Angelo police units on the west side of the Beauregard bridge over the Concho River.

A GMC SUV appeared to have left the roadway and crashed into the trees and brush at Civic League Park being stopped just before it careened down the bank of the river. Police were interested in one man who was apparently the sole occupant of the vehicle. Given the way the vehicle crashed, he was heading east towards downtown San Angelo.

Medics arrived and checked on the man before leaving him at the scene. The man did leave in a police unit but did not appear to be in handcuffs, so it is unknown if he was arrested, taken to the hospital, or taken home. It is also unclear if he suffered any injuries in the crash or what caused it in the first place.

While the GMC did not crash into the Concho River, it did sustain heavy front-end damage and was taken away by a wrecker. Still, a bigger disaster was averted as they did not have to pull the vehicle out of the river and, even better, the man is not sleeping with the fishes.
