2 Women Killed, 2 Children Injured in Rollover Crash in Callahan County

CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX — Two women were killed and two children injured Monday night in a single-vehicle rollover crash on Interstate 20 in Callahan County, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened around 9:42 p.m. on Oct. 6 near mile marker 319, when a westbound 2013 Ford Edge lost control, left the roadway, and rolled multiple times. Investigators said the vehicle overturned onto its roof and skidded across the road before coming to rest.

The driver, identified as Candace Paige Gant, 27, of Midland, and a passenger, Misty Nicole Moody, 46, of Eastland, were both pronounced deceased at the scene. Neither was wearing a seatbelt, according to DPS, and both were ejected.

Two children from Midland — Gant’s 5-year-old son and 1-year-old daughter — were also in the vehicle. The boy suffered serious injuries and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center, while the 1-year-old, who was in a rear-facing car seat, sustained non-incapacitating injuries and was also transported to the same hospital.

DPS reported that road conditions were dry and weather was clear at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit in the area is 75 miles per hour.
