Sweetwater City Employee Dies While Repairing Water Line

SWEETWATER, TX – A 23-year-old City of Sweetwater employee died Tuesday evening while repairing a water leak in the 1000 block of East 13th Street.

City officials said Robert Saucedo suffered a fatal injury while working on the repair and was transported to Rolling Plains Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

“We are heartbroken by this devastating loss,” said Interim City Manager Bryan Sheridan. “Robert was a valued member of the City of Sweetwater team, and we are committed to supporting his family and colleagues as we navigate this difficult loss together.”

Saucedo began his career with the city’s Water Distribution Department in October 2024 and had been working toward obtaining his D license to further his education and career in the water industry.

“Robert was just beginning to build a strong career in the water industry,” Utilities Director Justin Clowers said. “It was an honor to watch him develop as both a professional and a person. We are devastated by his passing.”

"The City of Sweetwater extends its deepest sympathies to the Saucedo family during this time," information stated. "Counseling and support services will be made available to all City employees impacted by this tragic loss."
