Two Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on I-20 in Midland County

 

MIDLAND COUNTY, TX – Two people were killed and one seriously injured in a head-on crash early Saturday on Interstate 20 in Midland County.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, 34-year-old Henry Anthony Vela was driving east in the westbound lanes of I-20 around 1:20 a.m. July 26 when he collided head-on with a westbound vehicle.

The other vehicle was driven by 78-year-old William Randolph Smith, who had a 52-year-old woman passenger. After the crash, Vela’s vehicle caught fire.

Vela and Smith were pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman was taken to Midland Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

The crash happened near mile marker 129 and remains under investigation.
