SAN ANGELO, TX — A boozed-up driver turned a fancy San Angelo street into a demolition derby, plowing a pickup into a power pole like it owed him money.
Cops rolled up to the chaos at Avenue J and Paseo de Vaca at 10:15 p.m. Wednesday, July 16, 2025, finding a white work truck giving a power pole an unwanted hug. AEP was summoned because the pole looked ready to topple like a Jenga tower at a frat party.
The driver, presumably practicing for the DUI Olympics, was cuffed and carted off. AEP says they’ll have the mess cleaned up by breakfast, assuming no more drunk drivers turn it into a sequel.
Paseo de Vaca, the ritziest road in San Angelo’s historic Santa Rita neighborhood, isn’t used to this kind of low-class drama.

Public servant and owner of the local brothel that is so emblematic of San Angelo's heritage, Brenda Gunter, has a low tax shelter cobbled together in that general area.
