Abilene Woman Killed in Callahan County Crash

 

CALLAHAN COUNTY, TX — A 26-year-old woman from Abilene was killed Sunday night in a single-vehicle crash on State Highway 36 near milepost 317, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

The crash happened around 9:25 p.m. on March 30. DPS officials said a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier was traveling westbound when it veered off the right side of the highway and went through the north barrow ditch. The car hit a barbed wire fence, several trees, and large rocks before catching fire.

The driver, identified as Madison Eleni Shults, was pronounced deceased at the scene. She had been wearing a seatbelt.

Weather conditions were reported as cloudy, and road conditions were dry at the time of the crash. The posted speed limit on that stretch of SH 36 is 75 mph.
